Games beyond any doubt are fun, and the iPhone, with its intense processors, and the new Metal API, makes for an awesome gadget to play games on. In any case, with the App Store’s enormous list of games, picking as well as can be expected be a significant undertaking. In this way, in case you’re searching for the best racing games to play on your iPhone, here is our rundown of the 8 best iPhone racing games you can play:
1. Asphalt 8: Airborne
The Asphalt racing line has always been very well-known for some good quality game-time, and for good reason. Asphalt 8: Airborne is a really nice racing game for the iPhone, that will give you endless hours of quality fun. The in-game graphics are very nice, and it comes with a number of locations where you can race. There are multiple seasons in the game that you can play in, to earn cash, and buy new cars (or upgrade old ones). Every day, the game comes with new events, where you can test your mettle, and by completing tasks, unlock new cars, and even get them for free (at times).
The game works smoothly, even on my relatively ancient iPhone 5S, and it absolutely blazes on the iPhone 7 Plus. There is even a multiplayer mode, both on Local Wi-Fi, and on the internet, where you can play against your friends, or players from around the world. The game is a lot of fun, and I’m sure you’ll love playing it. It’s free, so go ahead and download it!

2. CSR Racing
CSR Racing takes a different view towards racing, as compared to Asphalt. Personally, I like racing “the Asphalt way”, but CSR is a lot of fun, as well. In CSR, you don’t need to worry about turning your car, or drifting through corners (which, admittedly, is the most fun part of a racing game), but you need to time your gear shifts perfectly, in order to win. You know, because CSR is a drag racing game. This is harder than it sounds, and it took me quite some time to avoid late shifting.
The game offers a very wide selection of cars that you can buy from the money you earn by winning races. You can then upgrade your car to make it faster. Unlike Asphalt, CSR doesn’t have seasons. Instead, the city map is divided into districts, that are controlled by different factions of racers. Your ultimate aim, is to beat all of the factions, by playing in “Regulation”, and “Ladder” races to earn cash for upgrades, and new cars. While the game doesn’t give an adrenaline-rush anywhere near to Asphalt 8, it does have entirely different challenges to overcome, and will definitely make for a fun game to have on your iPhone.

3. Crazy Taxi
Okay, so technically speaking, Crazy Taxi is not a racing game. However, it does need you to race against time, and yourself, in order to complete the missions, and get money, upgrade your car, etc. The game has playful graphics, that are not realistic at all, but they’re not meant to be. In Crazy Taxi, you are a newcomer to town, and you are hired as a cab driver. Everyone in this town is always in a hurry to get places, and you need to make sure that you can drive fast (and crazy) enough, to get them there within the time limit that you get.
The game is definitely a lot of fun to play, and the way it handles controlling the car, is very refreshing. You basically only need one finger to control everything in the game – from switching lanes, to turning left, or right, and even to fire up the nitro. Yeah, your cab has a nitro built in. That’s how crazy the town is. The game is free, so download it, and race against time to finish this crazy game.

4. Reckless Racing 3
Reckless Racing 3 is the sequel to the well-known “Reckless Racing, and Reckless Racing 2” series. The game keeps the same gameplay as its predecessors, and is a lot of fun. There are a number of game modes that you can play, including the “Career” mode, as well as “Arcade”. In the arcade mode, you need not worry about the car you have, or any upgrades to it. You simply need to end up on the podium, in order to unlock the next levels.
Quite simply, if you’re only looking for straight-up casual fun, then Arcade mode is meant for you. However, the career mode offers a lot of features that one would expect from a full featured racing game. You can buy new cars, upgrade existing cars, and do a lot more in the “Garage”. You need to keep your car performing well, in order to progress through the career mode. The graphics in the game are quite nice to look at, and the gameplay itself is a lot of fun. It did take me a couple of races to get the exact turning mechanism right, but once you get past that, you’ll love the game. It’s free, and I would recommend that you download it, and give it a try.

5. Real Racing 3
Real Racing 3 is a very realistic looking racing game from Electronic Arts. The game starts off with a tutorial, where you learn how to handle a car, and make it through sharp corners. There is no nitro in the game, at least not when you start off. The graphics in the game look very real, and the handling of the cars is exceptional. People who like realistic looking games, where they race cars on a track, instead of out on the street like Asphalt 8, will surely find this game fun. Inside the game, you get the option to switch camera angles between “cockpit”, “first person “, and “Third person” cameras.
The game comes with a career mode as well, where you start off with a car, and you need to win races in different segments, to earn cash for buying new cars, and upgrading your existing ones. The logic is pretty much the same as other racing games. The cars automatically handle braking when approaching turns, and drifting if you turn them too sharply. However, you can tap anywhere on the screen to manually brake, should you find the need for it. The game is free, and you should definitely try it out for some realistic looking races on your iPhione.

6. Asphalt Xtreme
Asphalt Xtreme is another “Asphalt” game from Gameloft that takes the racing off the streets. The game is full to the brim with off-roading vehicles that you can buy and get racing off the roads. The game comes with 35 vehicles ranging from buggy, and pick-up trucks, to a monster truck, as well. So, no matter what your preference in off-roading vehicles is, you’ll find a fit for you. Similar to Asphalt 8, the game has a garage where you can customize, and upgrade your vehicle, to make it uniquely yours, and to increase its power.
The game also comes with a multiplayer, similar to what we saw in Asphalt 8: Airborne. The multiplayer mode allows users to play head-to-head with other players, either on local WiFi, or over the internet. The game also includes online events, that a player can participate in to try and unlock advanced upgrades, or get new cars at a fraction of the price. All in all, the game is definitely a lot of fun to play, and will keep you engaged for hours. The graphics are amazing, and the action is superb. You’ll surely get lost in the world of Asphalt when you play this game. The best part? It’s free, so go ahead and download it right now.

7. Trials Frontier
Trials Frontier is a very different kind of racing game, when compared to the rest of this list. For starters, it’s bike racing. But that’s not the difference I was talking about. Trials Frontier is a racing game with a story. In the game, you start off simply riding through tracks, while the game teaches you the basic controls. Later, the story begins, and you start off at a village, where the people need your help against another biker. You can visit different places in the village, and find people who will then give you missions to complete on your bike. On your way, you will meet the antagonist of the story multiple times, and your only aim, is to beat him on the track.
The game is really very well balanced, and it requires quite a lot of concentration to play. You need to be aware of when to accelerate your bike, and when not to. You’re also in-charge of leaning forward, or backward on your bike, to make sure you land properly after taking one of the many jumps in every track. The single player campaign gets a bit repetitive after a while, but the game itself is still kinda fun to play.

8. CSR Racing 2
The sequel to the original drag racing game – CSR Racing 2 is another really great game that you can play on your iPhone. CSR 2 improves upon a lot of the already great things about its predecessor, such as the allowing users to go deeper in customization and change stuff like the gear ratios for their cars, and the nitrous settings. Players can even adjust the tire pressure for their vehicles in the game, now. Anyone with real-life experience, and knowledge of the difference these things can make to racing, will absolutely love the customization options that CSR Racing 2 offers them. Players can now even strip their cars for parts, and then add those new parts to their favorite car.
On the multiplayer front, the game allows players to play with their friends, or play online with unknown people. You can chat on the multiplayer live chat, and make friends. The game also keeps the concept of “crews”, and you can form your own crew, or join one, and engage in crew races. CSR Racing 2 just has everything that you might want from a drag racing game. Plus, the game is completely free.
