What is the difference between static and dynamic IP ?
Static IP | Dynamic IP |
---|---|
Static IP configured by the ISP (Internet Service Provider) |
Dynamic IP configured using DHCP (Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol) . |
The static IP is fixed which means it could not be changed until the user wants to change it. |
Dynamic IP changes each time when a user connects to a network. |
The associated risk of website hacking is large in static IP because it is always constant. |
There is low risk regarding dynamic IP. |
When the device is configured with static IP address, it can be tracked. |
In case of dynamic IP address the tracking of the device is difficult as the IP address is always changing. |
Expensive than dynamic IP | Cheaper than static IP |
Use DNS to map domain name to IP address, and use domain name to address the static IP address. |
Use Dynamic DNS for dynamic IP address, but it’s not as clean as the static IP address. |
