Error Description:
- The iPhone/iPad error 4013/4014, or the iTunes error 4013/4014 often happens when users are trying to:
- Update iPhone 5/5c/5s/6/6 Plus/7/8/X, iPad Pro/Air/Mini to latest iOS version (iOS 11 for example) via iTunes;
- Restore iPhone with iTunes to fix problems such as red screen/blue screen loop, iPhone stuck at Apple logo screen.
- The error message just pops up in iTunes saying "The iPhone/iPad could not be restored. An unknown error occurred (4013/4014)". Many users have no clue why the error 4013/4014 shows up or how to fix iTunes 4013/4014.
Solution 1:
Change A New Cable
- Check if the USB cable that we are using is working. We may change a new cable and see if the error still comes up. Sometimes, low-quality third-party USB cable might make the iPhone unrecognizable by iTunes.
Solution 2:
Check USB Ports
- Make sure that the charging port on the iPhone is working fine, which we can tell if the iPhone can be charged normally. And also try a different USB port on the computer or connect the iPhone to iTunes on a different computer to ensure that the USB port is not the problem.
Solution 3:
Update iTunes
- Update iTunes to the latest version. In iTunes, click "Help" > "Check for Updates" and if there is a new version available, update it.
Solution 4:
Strong Wi-Fi Connection
- Both the computer and iPhone should be connected to a strong Wi-Fi. Poor Wi-Fi connection could interrupt the iOS update and thus cause the iTunes error.
Solution 5:
Free Up iPhone Space
- Free up space if there is not enough storage on the iPhone for the update. The error 4013/4014 could show up when the iPhone doesn't have space for the new iOS update.
Solution 6:
Keep PC/Mac up to Date
- If there is update alert for the Mac or Windows computer, get the update.
